Lyle Helmick

Preston's heart for worship and his ability to hear God's voice has given me the confidence I require to place him as a primary leader in our worship ministry. I trust his judgment and am always ministered to in a significant way by his leadership. The combination of his solid musicaninship, contemporary vocals and understanding of scripture bring life to his music. He has a unique ability of combining worship with the experiences of his life. They come through with humble confidence in his song's memorable melodies and edgy arrangements. As a worship pastor, I hear many new releases, Preston's Coles new project, "Hidden" is among my favorite.

Song Stories Behind the Songs mp3
1. A Time Last year I went on a prayer retreat. As I began to worship the Lord, I entered into ‘free worship’ and began to sing the Chorus of this song as my prayer for that time with God. The verses were written later as I reflected on my beliefs regarding the nature of God and worship.
2. Kingdom I was in a coffee shop reading a well-written article on the Kingdom of God when this melody popped into my head. A few minutes later I left and, while in the car, scribbled these lyrics on a few paper plates. It’s a simple, but addictive song. I get a rush of anticipation every time I hear it.
3. Hidden I was at a prayer meeting and someone gave a prophecy that included the phrase, “You will be hidden in my heart”. The words pierced me like a sword and soon thereafter this song was birthed. I’m very pleased with how it turned out on the record. Relax, close your eyes, and find yourself hidden in the heart of the Lord.
4. Passage of Time God is not in a hurry. Our Christian growth is a process. One as precious and natural as those processes reflected in nature. If we rest in the nurturing soil of God’s presence we will naturally grow in our faith and love of God…with the passage of time.
5. Everything I Need Yahweh is the Hebrew name for God. Yeshua is the Hebrew name, “Joshua,” or, “Jesus”. The verses express what God means to me. The chorus is a statement of personal fulfillment via the fullness of the Godhead – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
6. Jesus on My Mind The evening I became born again, I felt as though I was given new eyes; a God-lens through which to view the world. Now, Jesus saturates everything I see and think. In some fashion, Jesus is always on my mind.
7. As for Me I wrote this song for my wedding, but circumstances prevented my singing it then. (I sang a different song for my wife). Still, this song has found its way into many other weddings. I chose to record a blues/folk/rock version here instead of the typical ‘unplugged’ wedding version.
8. I Will Follow The first song I ever wrote. I was in my apartment playing a simple guitar melody when I began to focus on a picture that hung on my wall. It was a painting of Joseph and Mary during their flight to Egypt. I was stricken by their sacrifice and inspired to write about my willingness to do the same if need be.
9. Like You I was at church after hours just playing the guitar and worshipping. I began to play these chords and sing whatever came to mind. Hope and frailty combine in honest verses and a chorus of optimistic prayer.
10. Sara Song We kept the ‘scratch’ vocal and guitar parts for this song on our final version, choosing not to re-record and ‘polish’ them. This song is not about perfection. It’s about genuine love. I also played drums on this track to get as much of ‘me’ as possible in this song for my beautiful wife, Sara.
